Fetterman mocks Dr Oz for wearing ‘Gucci loafers’ and says he ‘wouldn’t last two hours’ in Braddock

Democratic Pennsylvania Senate hopeful John Fetterman mocked Dr. Mehmet Oz over the Republican‘s claims that he would be soft on crime in a new ad released Tuesday.

‘Doc Oz, in his Gucci loafers, is attacking me on crime,’ Fetterman said. ‘Dr. Oz wouldn’t last two hours here in Braddock.’

The Democratic lieutenant governor then showed off the tattoos on his arms, as a narrator explains that on Fetterman’s left arm is Braddock, Pennsylvania‘s ‘15104’ zipcode, while his right arm is adorned with the dates of murders in the rust belt community.

‘Public safety is why I ran for office. When two of my students were murdered I ran for mayor to stop the violence,’ Fetterman explained. ‘I worked side-by-side with the police. Showed up at the crime scenes. We did whatever it took to fund our police and stop gun deaths for five years.’

Oz, like other Republican candidates, has tried to tie down his Democratic opponent with the progressive rallying call to ‘defund the police.’

Oz launched  a website called ‘Inmates for Fetterman,’ which features the lieutenant governor talking about reducing the prison population by one-third, claiming it wouldn’t make ‘anyone less safe.’

On the website, the former TV doctor blasted Fetterman for trying to release convicted murderers.

Fetterman was the mayor of Braddock, Pennsylvania for 13 years after growing up in York County, the son of teenage parents.

He moved to the dilapidated western Pennsyvanian steel town after serving in AmeriCorps and receiving a master’s degree at Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government. He was hired by Allegheny County to start a youth program.

Braddock had lost 90 percent of its population since its peak in the 1920s, thanks to closing steel mills and residents moving out to the suburbs.

About 2,000 people live in the town.

Fetterman was able to work with police and get the murder rate to zero for five of the years he was in office.

He’s pushed for criminal justice reform and said in advance of President Joe Biden’s trip to the Pittsburgh area on Labor Day that he wanted to see Biden decriminalize marijuana.

This week Fetterman also released a video of a Democratic campaign event from over the weekend in which he appeared alongside three women dressed like broccoli, urging Pennsylvanians not to vote for Dr. Oz after his hoity-toity ‘crudite’ remark.

‘I’m scared Dr. Oz is going to dip me in salsa, please vote for John Fetterman,’ one of the women said.

Fetterman poked fun at Oz for trying to make a point about inflation, blaming Biden, by going grocery shopping for ‘crudite,’ in which he bungles the name of the grocery store and suggests salsa and tequila are served alongside a veggie tray.
