Penrith Panthers v New Zealand Warriors, Melbourne Storm v Sydney Roosters results, kick off time, updates, Round 24 news; Aiden Tolman to retire

Sharks forward Aiden Tolman has confirmed 2022 will be his final season in the NRL.

His decision brings the curtain down on a career that began with Melbourne way back in 2008, and also included 222 matches for the Bulldogs from 2011-2020.

He joined the Sharks in 2021, and earlier this season played his 300th NRL match.

He retires as the most capped active player in the competition.

Tolman is the second Sharks player this week to confirm he won’t be at the club next year, after Andrew Fifita’s announcement on Tuesday.

Tolman was a member of Melbourne’s side that beat Parramatta in the 2009 grand final. The club was subsequently stripped of that premiership for salary cap breaches.

“I feel like now is the perfect time to move in another direction and hopefully I can do that by giving back to the game that has given me so much,” Tolman said.

“I’m very thankful for the opportunities they’ve all given me, but here at the Sharks, we’ve still got a job to do.

“I’m not done yet for this season and whenever the last game comes, I’ll be able to sit down and reflect on my career and really appreciate and celebrate what I’ve achieved in this game and all the people who have helped me to get where I am.

“I’ve got six weeks to go and that’s where my focus is here at the moment.”
