An infant girl was killed and three others were hurt when an ATV rolled over just outside New Ross, N.S., about 90 kilometres west of Halifax.

The side-by-side was carrying two adults, a young boy and the infant when the crash happened just after 7 p.m. Monday, according to the RCMP.

The vehicle, a Polaris Rzr, was travelling on a narrow gravel roadway on Forties Road when it rolled and came to rest on its roof, police said.

The 27-year-old female driver from Forties, N.S., and a 52-year-old male passenger from New Ross were taken to hospital with serious injuries.

The boy was also hurt, but not seriously, and was taken to hospital. Police did not disclose the ages of the children involved.

The infant girl was transported to hospital by paramedics where she later succumbed to her injuries, police said.

RCMP say their investigation is ongoing.
