The Dragons have knocked back a request from Zac Lomax to negotiate with rival NRL clubs, reports The Sydney Morning Herald.

The Herald reports the $800,000-a-year star’s management approached the club proposing a deal that could see Lomax leave immediately.

It comes as rumours swirl that Parramatta is keen to bring Lomax to Sydney’s west to add him to the backline.

The Eels are said to be willing to play Lomax at centre – his preferred position.

New St George Illawarra coach Shane Flanagan on Sunday conceded Lomax is “upset” at being shifted to the wing this year, despite starring in a shock victory over the Titans on Saturday.

But the Red V is adamant the homegrown star won’t be leaving this year.

Lomax is contracted until the end of 2025, meaning rivals can’t legally negotiate with him until November 1 this year.

The Dragons last year were filthy at rivals trying to lure away halfback Ben Hunt.

The news that Lomax is disgruntled under Flanagan has baffled some commentators, with Sharks legend Paul Gallen on Monday clipping the young Dragon.

“I don’t know why he’s not happy,” Gallen told Wide World of Sports.

“At the end of the day it’s a team sport, and when you’ve got a coach like Shane Flanagan… he’s been there and done it at all different levels.

“I actually think it’s a great position for Zac Lomax. Centres probably touch the ball less than wingers these days.”

The Dragons take on the Dolphins on Sunday.
