Hawthorn Hawks cool on Jack Gunston from Lions move

Veteran forward Jack Gunston dropped a bombshell on Brisbane last week when he requested a trade from the Lions.

Gunston – who won three premierships with Hawthorn before moving north – asked to be traded back to the Hawks, but the Melbourne club is reportedly not as keen to bring the 32-year-old – whose birthday is today – back home.

According to The Age, Hawthorn is not interested in giving away Brandon Ryan in order to get Gunston, and the club is prioritising poaching Mabior Chol and Massimo D’Ambrosio over any attempt to bring Gunston back.

In response to the Gunston request, Brisbane issued a fairly pointed media release in which the club reiterated the key forward is contracted for 2024.
