Spotify may be working on another AI-powered feature

Spotify has already launched two major features: AI-powered DJ and AI-translated podcasts, and now the company is said to be working on a new one called AI-powered playlists. References of the feature have been spotted in the app’s code which indicate that users can create these playlists using prompts.

The code in Spotify’s app mentions “AI playlists” and “playlists based on your prompts.” It could be possible that creating these playlists may be an option within the Blend genre. Under this section, the app offers a playlist made of songs from multiple gestures.

Here’s what Spotify has to say
Spotify has declined to confirm its plans around AI playlists.

“At Spotify, we are constantly iterating and ideating to improve our product offering and offer value to users. But we don’t comment on speculation around possible new features and do not have anything new to share at this time,” TechCrunch quoted a spokesperson as saying.

Spotify currently has a feature called Niche Mixes, which allows users to create “personalised playlists for almost anything you can think of”, which could be a genre to a vibe and others. It must be noted that Niche Mixes were not launched as an AI-powered feature and it is powered by the company’s personalisation algorithms.

Furthermore, there is no guarantee that this feature may come to the masses because it is a common norm in the tech industry that various developing features do not see the light of the day.

According to Ziad Sultan, who is Spotify’s head of Personalisation, earlier told the publication that current AI-powered features wouldn’t be the limit to the company’s adoption of AI technology.

Spotify reportedly has a few hundred people working on personalisation and machine learning techniques to understand “all the possibilities across Large Language Models, across generative voice, across personalisation,” he said.
