Google app gets generative AI, here's how to enable it

Google has started rolling out the new generative AI feature to the Google app on Android. The feature is a part of Google’s latest Search Generative Experience (SGE) where the company has started integrating generative AI capabilities to its apps and services across the portfolio.

If you are unaware, Google has already made Bard accessible to more users and has made the AI feature available to Docs, Sheets, Slides and more.

What does generative AI do in Google app
Generative AI on Google app is basically AI-generated content in the search. What it does is it curates the necessary data for the query users have asked and then returns a well crafted answer or solution for that. This helps users get necessary information faster without going through multiple websites and resources.

For instance, you’ve searched for a product review — Galaxy S22 review. Then it will automatically go through multiple websites and reviews to generate a review of the Galaxy S22 and make it easier for users to get an insight about it.

Sounds interesting right? If you want to try this feature, here’s how you can do it.

Download and install the latest version of Google app on your phone
Now, look for a beaker icon (Search Labs) at the top left corner of the app
A new page — SGE, generative AI in Search — will open
Here turn on the toggle in front of “When turned on, SGE may appear when you search.

Once done, the Google app will refresh and the feature will be activated on your phone.

How to use generative AI in Google app
There’s no specific way to use it. All you need to do is search something using the app and if the app can, it will generate a result based on the websites and show it to you along with other regular search results.
