Horror as a child dies after being hit by a car in a car park in Blackburn North, Melbourne

A child has tragically died after they were struck by a vehicle in a car park in a horror accident in Melbourne‘s east.

Emergency responders raced to Springfield Road in Blackburn North around 6.45pm on Saturday night.

The child couldn’t be revived at the scene, despite frantic efforts by paramedics. 

The driver of the vehicle stopped to assist and is assisting with police with inquiries. 

 Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives have launched an investigation.

‘The circumstances surrounding the collision are yet to be established and the investigation remains ongoing,’ a police statement read.

The tragedy comes just days after two young brothers were struck and pinned by a car while playing in a laneway.

Brothers Burak and Huseyin Pek, aged three and eight, were playing soccer in a laneway behind their grandparents’ home in Braybrook when they were struck by a Toyota Prado allegedly driven by an unlicensed driver.

Police are also investigating a separate fatal crash in Templestowe several hours earlier on Saturday afternoon after a Toyota Prado and a motorcycle collided at a busy intersection

The motorcycle rider died at the scene.

The driver, a 51-year-old woman, is assisting police with their enquiries.

Anyone who witnessed either incident, has dashcam/CCTV footage or information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.

The current toll of lives lost on Victorian roads stands at 213, compared to 186 this time last year.
