WhatsApp to offer an option to disable Instant Video Messages

WhatsApp recently rolled out a new Instant Video Message feature that allows users to send quick video messages easily. The feature is a handy alternative to quick voice notes which the platform has been offering for a while now.

However, a few users aren’t happy with the implementation of the feature as it is integrated within the same button that’s used to share the audio messages. Now, to make things better, WhatsApp is planning to add a new option for users that’ll allow them to enable or disable Instant Video Messages.

WhatsApp to allow disabling Instant Video Messages
WABetaInfo has reported that WhatsApp is testing the option to disable Instant Video Messages in the latest beta version of the messaging app. The company has added a new toggle to disable or enable the Instant Video Message feature within the Chat setting in the app.

Based on the report, once the feature is disabled, the microphone button that’s used to send both audio and video messages will revert to its original state and it will only record audio messages.

The report clarifies that disabling the toggle only turns off the microphone button’s ability to record video messages and not the entire feature of the app. This means users can still receive instant video messages from other users. The new toggle is rolling out to all WhatsApp Beta users as of now and is expected to become available to all users — stable version — in coming weeks via future updates.

Meanwhile, WhatsApp has recently rolled out HD photos and video-sharing support to the platform. This allows users to share photos and videos in high definition which is around three times better resolution than the non-HD sharing.
