Google has already confirmed that it will launch its next-generation Pixel smartphones on October 4. Now an online leak reveals that the company may start the Android 14 rollout at the same time. According to Android expert Mishaal Rahman, the tech giant may release Android 14 version of the operating system on October 4 along with the launch of the Pixel 8 series.
As per Rahmaan, Google has notified original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) that they will release the Android 14 Security Release Notes, which include information on the fixed vulnerabilities, on October 4.
“Hearing now that the source code release of Android 14 has been delayed to next month. This decision seems to have been made very late, as even OEMs were anticipating that the release would be today. OEMs are now being told that vulnerabilities detailed in the Android 14 Security Release Notes will be published on October 4, 2023, so that may be the new release date. Yes, October 4, 2023 is the same day as the Pixel 8 launch event, so if this is true, it would be the first time that the AOSP release has been pushed back to coincide with the new Pixel device launch,” posted Rahmaan on X (formerly known as Twitter).
Google Pixel 8: What to expect
The upcoming models are expected to maintain their existing design lineage, albeit with some subtle differences. Under the hood, the Pixel 8 series is poised to be powered by Google’s in-house Tensor G3 chipset, marking its third generation, while both smartphones are likely to come pre-installed with Android 14.
In terms of camera improvements, rumours indicate that the Pixel 8 series will introduce a novel 50MP Samsung ISOCELL GN2 primary sensor, capable of capturing 35% more light compared to the GN1 sensors found in the Pixel 6 and 7 series. The Pixel 8 Pro may even incorporate a fresh 64MP ultra-wide sensor, while the Pixel 8 is expected to maintain a 12.2MP version. Both models will introduce innovative software features, including the capability to adjust bokeh intensity and an adaptive torch to prevent overexposure.
Regarding the display, the Pixel 8 is slated to feature a 6.1-inch OLED screen with a 120Hz refresh rate. Conversely, the Pixel 8 Pro is anticipated to sport a 6.7-inch flat display with a variable 120Hz refresh rate and an impressive peak brightness of 1600 nits.
Battery capacities in the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro are set to receive minor upgrades, with the former housing a 4,485mAh battery and the latter boasting a 4,950mAh battery.
