Chilling image shows Lucy Letby at the christening of a newborn baby who died on the unit where nurse carried out her killing spree – as mother calls for her son’s case to be reopened

A chilling image has emerged showing Lucy Letby at the christening of a newborn baby who died on the unit where the nurse carried out her killing spree.

The photo – taken at the Countess of Chester Hospital in 2013 – shows Emily Morris lifting her baby son Alvin out of a cot as Letby leans over to help.

The mother, from Deeside, Flintshire, said Letby had told her Alvin’s condition was deteriorating the night before he died and said it is almost like ‘she was hinting that she did something’.

Ms Morris, 35, is now calling for her son’s death to be reinvestigated after police concluded in 2018 that there were no suspicious circumstances.

Both Ms Morris and Alvin’s stepfather Mark Lewis saw the photo for the first time yesterday after it was found stored on a disc in a memory box that they were unable to download.

Having seen the image, where Letby can be seen touching Alvin’s blanket as his mother was placing him down, the couple have spoken of their horror.

Mr Lewis, 39, said: ‘I feel sickened to see she was there.’

Emily Morris, 35, also called Letby ‘sick’ after seeing the picture, adding that it is ‘freaky’ that she also wrote in Alvin’s christening book.

She said: ‘Lucy Letby told us Alvin was deteriorating the night before he died.

‘In the morning he was dead which is weird. It’s like she was hinting that she did something.

‘Alvin was a happy little chappy, always smiling. I think she’s sick.’

Ms Morris first noticed Letby’s behaviour around Alvin, who had been diagnosed with muscular dystrophy, during his christening which took place at the hospital.

She said that Letby was constantly trying to touch him and lean over him during the christening.

Alvin’s christening book also revealed a ‘freaky’ message left by the serial killer which read ‘To Alvin, with love on your special day.’

Speaking to the Daily Mail of the notes in the diary, she said: ‘It’s freaky. It makes you feel ill looking at it.’

Ms Morris continued: ‘I think she’s sick. How could a person do that to a baby?

‘I had triplets there [Countess of Chester Hospital] before so I knew how the rooms worked.

‘He was in Room 3 which is where you go if you’re going home soon. So why was he there?

‘And why was she with him the night before? The next day we were woken up and went in and he was already dead. She had him the night before.

‘We’re saying it’s suspicious. It’s weird. She must’ve done something.’

Commenting on her failure to appear at the sentencing hearing, Ms Morris said: ‘She should’ve shown up at court’.

Police have said inquiries are taking place.

Speaking to the BBC, she said: ‘It shocked us. It’s really hard to see a person who has done that to those babies next to you. It makes you sick.

‘You can see she is grabbing his blanket. I have told everybody that she did that and now there’s proof. That’s proof that she was with him.’

The UK’s Department of Health and Social Care have ordered an independent inquiry into the circumstances around the deaths and how Letby was able to carry out her killing spree.
