Russian ‘missile factory explodes near Moscow in latest Ukrainian drone strike’

A key Russian plant producing electronics for Vladimir Putin‘s missiles has been struck in Ukraine’s latest drone on the aggressor nation, Kyiv has claimed.

A kamikaze drone strike on Lyubertsy close to Mosvow hit the Tomilinsky Electronics Plant research and production enterprise, claimed Kyiv.

The attack is another major blow to Putin as Ukraine ramps up its drone attacks on Russia.

The extent of casualties and damage to Russia’s vital missile factory was not immediately clear.

Moscow mayor Sergey Sobyanin earlier suggested that the drone had been shot down, and caused no damage.

‘Today, air defence forces near Lyubertsy thwarted another attempt to fly a drone to Moscow,’ the Moscow mayor said.

A video evidently showed smoke pouring from the secret electronics plant, it was reported.

The Ukrainian defence ministry claimed the fire at the missile electronics plant was from a drone, according to a report in Kyiv.

This was said to be an attack staged by Ukrainian military intelligence.

‘It was the GUR’s operation, it was a success and there will be more,’ said a source according to Ukrainskaya Pravda.

Footage was seen of the drone which buzzed Lyubertsy.

Intelligence spokesman Andrey Yusov siad: ‘A workshop producing electronics for missiles is on fire.

‘Why it burns and who made it burn, we do not comment. But the fact is it is burning.

‘And the statements of representatives of the Moscow authorities that they shot down something do not correspond to reality’.

In other strikes, a drone was downed in northern Russian military city Pskov.

Satellite images showed how Putin Il-76 warplanes were destroyed in an earlier attack this week.

Earlier today, Russian air defences also intercepted drones heading toward three western regions.

Regional governors said defence systems stopped three drones in the Kursk, Belgorod and Moscow regions.

Moscow airports briefly halted flights but no major damage or injuries were reported, according to Russian authorities.

Drones aimed at targets inside Russia – and blamed by Moscow on Ukraine – have become almost a daily occurrence as the war entered its 19th month and Kyiv’s forces pursue a counter-offensive. Recently, the drones have reached deeper into Russia.

Kyiv officials normally neither claim nor deny responsibility for attacks on Russian soil.

The apparent Ukrainian strategy is to unnerve Russia and pile pressure on Putin.
