Google gives the Fitbit app a Material You makeover

The Fitbit app is getting a significant redesign, focusing on simplicity, personalisation, and motivation. Google is giving the app a Material You style makeover on Android and iOS.

The app’s appearance has been updated with a new colour scheme, icons, and illustrations to align with Google’s Material Design theme. The new design has three tabs –Today, Coach, and You, which provide access to distinctive metrics and activities.

On the Today tab, you can quickly view your favourite stats and metrics with a glance. You can customise which stats are displayed to fit your individual goals. Despite the name, you can also see an overview of your health trends from the past month or year through charts, graphics, and icons.

The Coach tab provides curated lists of workouts and mindfulness sessions to keep you motivated. You can customise your search by filtering workouts based on your availability, owned equipment, fitness level, and health goals. Fitbit Premium subscribers have access to more content, including dance cardio classes.

The You tab is where you can access your achievement badges, progress metrics, and connect with other Fitbit users. You can also update your personal information here, such as daily steps, bedtime, and active zone minutes. Additionally, the app now features updated achievement badges. You can manage your community connections through this section.

The Fitbit app still tracks steps and exercises on your phone without needing a wearable. Additionally, Fitbit says that the app now offers more precise step counts and shows live route details for walks, runs, and hikes. Additionally, it should get easier to log your exercise routine, water consumption, and other metrics.

The redesigned Fitbit app is set to launch in the fall. Google is inviting a selected number of Fitbit users to participate in a closed beta test and provide feedback before the new app rolls out for everyone.
