Nine News Sydney plunges into darkness after technical blunder

A Nine News program was plagued by technical issues leaving their TV newsreader in the dark after the lights went out live on air during the first story.

Channel Nine’s afternoon Sydney news program was disrupted by a series of technical difficulties on Tuesday.

The bulletin started with audio problems, with Newsreader Mark Burrows’ microphone taking more than 10 seconds to start working.

Burrows spoke with RateCity Research Director Sally Tindall about the Reserve Bank of Australia holding back from raising interest rates in July.

Nine News Sydney Afternoon program on Tuesday night was plagued by a series of technical glitches leaving Newsreader Mark Burrows without audio and then in complete darkness

For a brief moment, the studio was plunged into complete darkness and Ms Tindall’s audio stopped working while she was mid-sentence.

Ms Tindall continued with her explanation before the lights began to flicker before turning off.

The pair sat in the dark studio sharing an awkward pause before Burrows addressed the technical glitch and soldiered through the first news story.

‘Well, we’ve lost a bit of light but we’ll try and keep going,’ Burrows said.

Burrows cut to prerecorded footage and interviews taking the focus away from the technical problems in the studio.

To the Newsreaders relief, the lights and microphones were back on for the next story.

Nine News shared a clip of the technical issues to the company’s YouTube channel praising Burrows for his professionalism and doing ‘well to continue on’.

Social media users joked about the blackout, claiming they would ‘lose it’ if the lights did not come back on.

‘If they were still in the dark by the time they cut back to them I was gonna lose it.’ one person commented

‘Times are tough, can’t afford microphones or electricity,’ another person commented.

A third said: ‘Nine News trying to not mess things up every week challenge – impossible.’
