Google‘s next high-end phones, the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro, are still months away. But we know quite a bit about the two upcoming phones, from newer cameras to different displays, a lot has been spilled about the Pixel 8 series. Now, the two phones’ battery capacities and charging speeds have also surfaced on the internet.
According to Android Authority, the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro would get some minor bumps in the battery capacity. The Pixel 8 could have a moderate bump, boasting a 4,485mAh battery compared to the Pixel 7’s 4,270mAh battery. Meanwhile, the Pixel 8 Pro will only see a slight increase of 24mAh to 4,950mAh.
As for the wireless charging, the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro would support the 20W proprietary wireless charging. The Qi 2 charging speed is capped at 12W for both models.
The new Pixel phones are also expected to have faster wired charging. Specifically, the Pixel 8 and 8 Pro are rumoured to support charging at 24W and 27W, respectively, which is a slight improvement from the current 20W and 23W charging speeds of the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro.
The Pixel 8 series may use Broadcom’s chip, which should enable the support for Wi-Fi 7.
Wi-Fi 7 is a new wireless networking standard that promises faster speeds, greater reliability, and lower latency, although it has not yet been finalised.
However, it’s possible that even if the Pixel 8 uses a Wi-Fi 7-capable chip, it may not officially support the protocol like Samsung‘s Galaxy S23 Ultra, which supports Wi-Fi 6E despite having a Wi-Fi 7 compatible chip inside.
Also, Google will continue to offer Ultra-Wideband connectivity exclusively on the Pro model for another year.
The Pixel 8, and Pixel 8 Pro are expected to debut later this year in October.
