Cristiano Ronaldo’s building of a £28m mansion near Lisbon ‘is a year behind schedule’

Construction work on Cristiano Ronaldo‘s ‘hospital-sized’ mansion near Lisbon is a year behind schedule in a nightmare scenario which is infuriating the football superstar’s to-be neighbours, according to reports in Portugal.

As reported by Look magazine, Ronaldo and his partner Georgina Rodriguez have angered neighbours by carrying out extensive work on the £28million property, which has been ongoing for more than three years and will continue for another 12 months at least.

A video from last month showed there is still much work to do on the mansion – which locals are disparagingly referring to as ‘Pharaoh Ronaldo’s pyramid’ – and resembled a construction site at the time.

Due to Ronaldo’s popularity, several media outlets and YouTubers have created content about the mansion, meaning its location is known to the Portuguese public.

It is anticipated that, when he retires from football, Ronaldo and his family will spend their time between Madrid – home for his former club Real Madrid – and near the coast in Lisbon.

But neighbours are understood to be ‘fed up’ with the ongoing project, with one saying: ‘They’ve been building for three years. The house is so big it looks like a hospital.

‘My street has been closed for months, my garden is full of dust. My street has been closed for months, my garden full of dust. All because of Pharaoh Ronaldo’s “pyramid”.

The project was initially expected to cost £10million, before the price subsequently increased to £17million and now to £28million.

A golf clubhouse near the mansion had to be relocated, which is one factor behind the increased costs. Ronaldo is said to have tried to buy the golf course to provide him with more security but his offer was declined.

Ronaldo’s mansion is set to include a giant glass swimming pool with an underwater walkway. The 38-year-old wants a master bedroom measuring 1,000 square feet as part of what is believed to be Portugal’s most expensive property development.

Neighbours are also reportedly concerned that the property will have sightlines into their gardens and amid the issues doubts have been raised over whether Ronaldo, now playing in Saudi Arabia, will ever move in.

The Portuguese star, who started his career at Sporting Lisbon, moved to Saudi Pro League team Al-Nassr in January following his bitter departure from Manchester United.

He also owns a luxury villa in Turin, Italy from his time at Juventus, as well as a £4.8m mansion on a gated fortress estate called La Finca close to Madrid.

As well as that, Ronaldo boasts a seven-storey apartment block in Funchal on the island of his birth, Madeira.
