V8 Supercars news | Teen Jaylyn Robotham to race in Bathurst 1000

At just 19 years old, Jaylyn Robotham will make his Repco Bathurst 1000 debut later this year.

He’ll join fellow Super2 Series racer Matt Chahda at the eponymous family team, which will field a Supercars wildcard for the first time in the Great Race.

In only his second year of Super2 Series competition, Robotham impressed when he scored his first win in the season-opener at Sydney Motorsport Park.

Matt Chahda Motorsport will field a Walkinshaw Andretti United-built Holden ZB Commodore in the race, led by race-winning engineer Wally Storey.

For Robotham, it’s a chance to show the established Supercars teams why they should hire him.

“We are delighted that Jaylyn will fulfil his dream of racing at the Great Race, the Bathurst 1000 later this year, as part of the MCM wildcard team,” said Robotham’s father, David.

“Jay has worked so hard for this and we are working closely with the team at MCM to make his debut a success.”

This year’s Bathurst 1000 grid is set to feature at least 29 entries with the addition of four wildcard entries.

Four-time Great Race winner Greg Murphy is set to return to The Mountain with Richie Stanaway in a Boost Mobile-backed entry.

Supercheap Auto will support seven-time Bathurst 1000 winner Craig Lowndes who will share a Triple Eight Race Engineering-run car with debutant Declan Fraser.

The sole Ford Mustang wildcard will be run by Anderson Motorsport. The team will have some support from Dick Johnson Racing.

As yet, who will join Michael Anderson in that entry has not been announced.

For the Matt Chahda Motosport squad, the completion of their driver line-up with Robotham is a major coup.

“Jay is a formidable competitor in Super2,” said Matt Chahda.

“His attention to detail, his driving style and overall attitude to life makes him a great choice as my teammate.”

Amin Chahda, team principal, added: “We are excited to have a young dynamic driver like Jaylyn partnering with Matt, as they both make their debut on The Mountain.

“We have followed Jay’s progress for some time and believe he will deliver on the day.”

This year’s Bathurst 1000 at Mount Panorama takes place across October 6-9.
