Blues assistant coach Ruan Sims says NRLW players are hoping to have a three-game Origin series similar to their male counterparts in the near future.
“We are really looking forward to tonight,” she told Nine’s TODAY.
“It’s an exciting opportunity expanding to two games this year, and hopefully in the very near future we’ll see it go to three.
“Just being able to play on a quality stadium like CommBank, I think that shows how far the women’s game has come.”
The pay for the women has been lifted to $15,000 per game this year, 50 per cent of the men’s wages, which is also encouragement for the women’s game.
“It’s a fantastic step forward,” Sims said.
“I think the girls were really surprised when it came through, they found out very, very late, but extremely grateful for the step up. I’m really proud of them and grateful that the NRL is taking that on.”
