Chris Hemsworth pulled out all the stops to celebrate wife Elsa Pataky‘s 46th birthday this week, but there was just one problem – the cake.
The 38-year-old Aussie Thor star ordered his Madrid-born wife a cake with a special message in Spanish, but proved his Spanish-speaking skills aren’t exactly up to scratch.
‘Feliz navidad Elsa,’ the special message read, which translated means ‘Merry Christmas Elsa’.

Chris made light of the situation and joked that his Spanish has ‘improved to levels of perfection’.
‘For those of you who speak Spanish you’ll notice that my Spanish has improved to a level of perfection here with a beautiful birthday message for Elsa,’ Chris wrote on Instagram.
In the images, Chris and Elsa pose for selfies with the cake in shot.

Elsa looks incredible showing off her flawless visage as Chris kisses her.
Fans loved Chris’ mix up, with one writing: ‘Merry Christmas??? Legend.’

Chris previously revealed that he doesn’t know any Spanish, despite being married to Elsa for more than a decade. The pair married in 2010.

‘When I hear Spanish directed at me, it’s usually unfortunate, controversial, aggressive situations,’ he said.
Chris also confessed he only knows a single sentence in Spanish.
As a result, he doesn’t always know what’s going on at home.
‘I’m just thinking, “What is she saying right now?” and “What’s my comeback to this?”‘ he said.

Chris, who lives in Australia with Elsa and their three children, revealed that he lives in a bilingual household.
His kids – daughter India Rose, 10, and eight-year-old twins sons Tristan and Sasha – are fluent in Spanish like their mother.
Chris explained that it’s difficult when his wife is disciplining their children in her native tongue because he doesn’t know what she’s saying.
When Elsa is telling off the kids, Chris joked that he just stands there saying things like, ‘That’s right!’
The couple, who previously lived in Los Angeles, relocated to Byron Bay, New South Wales several years ago.
