Kangaroos midfielder Jy Simpkin has dedicated his side’s drought-breaking win to former coach David Noble after the AFL’s bottom-feeders snapped a 14-game losing streak.
After racing to a 32-point lead, North Melbourne looked headed toward another loss as Richmond stormed back in the final quarter, before a late Cam Zurhaar goal gave the Kangaroos a 14. 8. (92) to 11. 22. (88) win at Marvel Stadium.
Simpkin was among North’s best in the win, finishing the match with a game-high 34 disposals to go with a goal, and gave a shoutout to his former coach, who parted ways with the club mid-week.

“It’s an amazing feeling. We’ve had so much go on over this week, but not only this week, the last couple of years have been so tough. I’m just so proud of the boys, I’m so happy I could cry right now,” he told Fox Footy after the win.
“We owe this to Nobes. He’s been there for the last couple of years (and) he worked his backside off to get this group better and send us on our way. This is for you, Nobes, you deserve it, mate.”
Simpkin was ably assisted by Zurhaar, who set up the win in the first half by kicking six majors in a stunning performance.
The shock loss to the Kangaroos could have massive finals implications for Richmond, who was without both Tom Lynch and Dustin Martin.
Richmond is currently in eighth spot on the ladder with 36 points, but could end the round in a four-way tie for the position with the Bulldogs, St Kilda, Gold Coast and Port Adelaide.
