Hulking Melbourne prop Nelson Asofa-Solomona has met with Wallabies coach Eddie Jones about a potential code switch.

Sydney Morning Herald journalist Michael Chammas broke the news during Nine’s NRL broadcast on Sunday.

“He is off-contract at the end of this year, he has a history of rugby, he was brought up playing rugby union, and he’s exploring his options at the moment,” Chammas said.

“I spoke to the Melbourne Storm, they are not surprised by Nelson speaking to rugby union.

“But they say they are closing in on a three-year extension to keep Nelson in the game until 2026.”

The news comes a week after teenage Roosters superstar Joseph Suaalii signed a three-year deal with Rugby Australia worth $1.6 million a year, starting in 2024.

Jones has spent weeks now signalling a poaching raid on rugby league, and he has several NRL stars in his sights.
