Twitter 'Verified Organisations' rolled out globally: What is it and how is it important

Twitter has gone through multiple changes since it was taken over by Tesla CEO Elon Musk in October 2022. Recently, the microblogging site announced that it will stop offering free account verification from April 1. The social media platform confirmed that accounts who have paid for Twitter Blue subscriptions will be the only ones to get the verified checkmarks and will be recommended in the ‘For You’ tab. Now, the company has rolled out a new feature called “Verified Organisations”.

What is Twitter’s “Verified Organisations”
This feature will allow pre-approved organisations to verify the Twitter handles associated with them. Twitter’s latest feature is designed to reduce the dependency on the social media platform to be the only verifier of accounts. The company has shared a tweet from its official handle to announce the new feature. Musk has also posted a tweet on the same thread to explain the latest feature.

While announcing the feature, the company said, “Verified Organisations is a new way for organisations and their affiliates to distinguish themselves on Twitter. Rather than relying on Twitter to be the sole arbiter of truth for which accounts should be verified, vetted organisations that sign up for Verified Organisations are in full control of vetting and verifying accounts they’re affiliated with.”

Twitter’s “Verified Organisations”: Availability
Twitter has already rolled out the “Verified Organisations” feature globally. Organisations on the waitlist who have already been approved will be receiving email invitations. Apart from this, interested businesses, non-profits, governments and multilateral organisations can also join the waitlist.

Importance of Twitter’s latest feature
Twitter’s new “Verified Organisations” feature will offer a new approach for companies and their affiliates to distinguish between themselves on the social media platform. This feature will enable organisations to differentiate themselves on Twitter. “Verified Organisations” will also offer companies to have more control over vetting and verifying their affiliated accounts.

This feature will also add an affiliate badge to the accounts associated with the organisation. However, the affiliate accounts will display the organisation’s logo and will be featured on the organisation’s profile.

Which companies are already using this Twitter feature
The social media site has announced that various organisations from different industries have already started using the “Verified Organisations” feature. These organisations include — sports teams, news organisations, financial firms, Fortune 500 companies and non-profits.

These organisations have also listed their affiliated accounts publicly on their Twitter profiles. This listing will indicate the association of affiliate accounts with these organisations.
