A man stabbed his neighbour to death after being hit with part of a fence panel, a murder trial has heard.

Mason Mills, 25, is accused of fatally stabbing 20-year-old Kieron Moore following an altercation outside their homes in Marriott Road, Leicester, shortly before midnight on November 12, 2021.

Mr Moore allegedly tried to jump over a fence to fight Mills, but was pulled away by friends before launching a second attack in which he used part of a panel to strike his neighbour.

Mills then retrieved a kitchen knife and stabbed Mr Moore three times, the court heard.

He is standing trial at Leicester Crown Court charged with murder.

Samuel Skinner, prosecuting, told the court that Mr Moore had been involved in two separate fist fights as he made his way home from an evening of drinking at Duncan Road Social Club.

The jury was shown CCTV footage of the altercations along Saffron Lane.

The first piece of footage was captured from outside the club, where police arrived to break up some violence.

Mr Moore left the scene with a friend, but came across some of the other men from the club further down the road and the fight continued, the court heard.

As the violence subsided, Mr Moore arrived home shortly after 11.30pm.

However, he allegedly then launched an attack on Mills, the jury was told.

Mr Skinner said: ‘Kieron Moore was in drink and had been in two fist fights. He was aggressive towards the defendant over the fence and may have threated to “have him”.

‘He then jumped over the fence and approached the defendant. There was a fist fight.

The court heard that the fatal stabbing took place after Mr Moore (pictured) had been drinking at a local social club

‘People intervened, but it started up again when Kieron Moore broke off a piece of fence panel and hit the defendant with it. People intervened again.’

The prosecutor told the court that Mr Moore stayed outside after that, while Mills went into his house and retrieved a kitchen knife from a drawer, before returning outside and stabbing his neighbour three times.

Following the third stab, the handle of the knife broke off and fell on the ground, where it was later recovered by police officers.

Mills, who also has an address of Boulter Crescent in Wigston, told police following his arrest that Mr Moore had produced the knife, but Mr Skinner told the court that this is a lie.

He added: ‘There was only one knife involved – the one the defendant went back into his house to fetch.’

Describing the fatal attack, Mr Skinner continued: ‘The defendant left the safety of his home, went outside towards Kieron Moore and pulled out the knife and inflicted the wounds.

‘He left a fist fight, deliberately arming himself with a knife.’

‘Whilst Kieron Moore started the fight with the defendant, and hit him with a piece of wood, the defendant armed himself with a knife and deliberately stabbed Kieron Moore.

‘This is not self-defence. He either intended to kill Kieron Moore or hurt him really badly – either is murder.’

The trial, which is expected to last three weeks, continues.
