Neighbours stars Ryan Moloney and Alan Fletcher ‘shocked’ when they learned the soap is returning

Ryan Moloney and Alan Fletcher were left stunned when they learned that Neighbours was returning.

Appearing on The Project on Friday, Alan, who plays Karl Kennedy on the soap, said he was in ‘utter shock’.

‘It’s extraordinary. We all got told individually. So our executive producer ran on the same day to everybody’s house’ the 65-year-old said.

‘Funnily enough when he told me, I was in such shock, but the actor kicked in after about two seconds an I went, I must remember this face.

‘Because, if I need to do utter shock…’ he joked.

‘Mate, it still hasn’t sunk in. It’s been like a week so far’ Ryan, 42, who plays Toadie Rebecchi, chimed in.

‘I was spending like the last few months trying to get my head around what it means to not be working after 28 years. So, you know, apparently it doesn’t take very long to get another job.’

Ryan said that producers were impressed by the ratings for the soap’s finale.

‘They got together and said the numbers are pretty damn good and the fans want it’ he explained.

‘They came to the party and they are bringing Neighbours is back, baby. Oh, yeah!’

Fans went into a frenzy after it was announced Neighbours was making a return to television.

However, several stars of the soap have been left bemused after only four actors were told the exciting news while the rest of the cast found out at the same time as the rest of the world.

A new series of Neighbours will begin filming in Australia next year and will see the likes of Stefan Dennis, (Paul Robinson) Alan Fletcher, (Dr Karl Kennedy), Ryan Moloney, (Toadfish) and Jackie Woodburne, (Susan Kennedy), reprising their leading roles.
