Rebel Wilson sparks backlash for partying after welcoming her daughter

Rebel Wilson has copped backlash from mothers on social media after footage surfaced of her partying just weeks after welcoming her first child via surrogate.

The Australian actress, 42, shared photos and videos of herself on the dance floor with her girlfriend Ramona Agruma and celebrities including Paris Hilton.

The event in Santa Monica was to celebrate the launch of Hilton’s virtual realm ‘Paris World’, and took place five days after Wilson announced her child’s birth, reports 7News.

Wilson and Agruma also reportedly attended Leonardo DiCaprio‘s 48th birthday party at about this time, according to various outlets.

The 42-year-old, who has long been open about her desire to have children, had announced the birth of her ‘miracle’ daughter Royce Lillian on November 8, saying her little girl arrived ‘this past week’ with the help of a ‘gorgeous surrogate’.

‘Total sliving last night! Congrats, Paris Hilton,’ Wilson captioned her post on Instagram. ‘Sliving’ is a slang term meaning glamorously successful, self-empowered and fulfilled.

Many of her followers flocked to comments section to criticise the Pitch Perfect star for partying so soon after welcoming the newborn daughter she had ‘longed for’.

‘I sure as heck wouldn’t have left my newborn to go partying the week she was born! Whether I had birthed her myself or not is irrelevant!’ one critic said.

‘I think she may regret this post in a few weeks’ [or] months’ time,’ another added.

‘She can do whatever she wants, as can any mum, but it does seem a little odd that a week after a baby that she longed for [for] so long arrives and she’s out partying. Even if it was for an hour or so, it still seems a bit strange.’

Another asked Wilson to ‘think of the woman’ who gave birth to her baby.

‘Ummm sorry?!? Didn’t you just get given a baby this week. So confused right now. This is the most important time to bond with your baby, not party,’ one comment read.

‘I was shocked when I saw this post but after seeing all the comments on here I really don’t need to add anything. My views are covered here too,’ another said.

However, plenty of fans in the comments section jumped to Wilson’s defence, arguing that ‘mothers are allowed to have time to themselves too’.

‘Are mothers not allowed to let their hair down? Are mothers not allowed to take a break for their own self, their own soul? None of us have any idea what is going on in Rebel’s life so don’t think for one second that you have any right to judge,’ one said.

‘There are plenty of women who go out, without their baby, early on in parenthood,’ another added.

‘Sure, not everyone can or even wants to, but there are many who do. Why do people have to make such a big deal about it? Life doesn’t end when you have children.’

Several others echoed these sentiments, saying they hoped to ‘normalise new mums taking an hour or two for themselves’.

Daily Mail Australia has contacted Rebel Wilson’s representatives for comment.
