Great British Bake Off star Janusz Domagala is the ninth contestant to be voted off ahead of final

Great British Bake Off‘s semi-final on Tuesday saw Janusz Domagala become the ninth contestant to be eliminated from the competition.

His exit means three bakers remain to battle it out in next week’s final –  Syabira, Sandro, and Abdul.

The closely-fought episode saw the contestants take on Patisserie Week where they were challenged to create 6 Mini Charlottes in the signature and Vertical Tarts in the technical.

And while Janusz finished up third in the prior challenge, it was the showstopper which proved to be his downfall as they were tasked to create Swedish-inspired biscuit sculpture.

Despite giving it his best with his interpretation of Brighton Pride, it wasn’t enough to convince judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith to give him a place in the final. 

Watching the action on screen, viewers at home were quick to share their upset that the Polish personal assistant will no longer be in the competition. 

One viewer tweeted: ‘Not Janusz his bakes were all amazing and looked delicious #GBBO watching him makes me so happy like his smile would bring me joy and now the joy is gone.’

A second shared: ‘So sad Janusz has been sent home he has been great all the way through, he has been robbed.’

‘Nooooo!!! Gutted that Janusz didn’t make the final, he’s been my favourite baker of this series! I reckon Syabira will be the winner’, responded a third.

With another adding: ‘Pretty shocked by this, I expected Sandro to go Janusz has been such a great contestant and he’s always so kind to everyone else, he’ll be missed next week for sure!’

Following his exit, Janusz – who had spring roll go missing last week, shared a sweet message for his fans on the GBBO Twitter page, with the baker encouraging other cake enthusiasts to sign up for the show. 

He wrote: ‘Hi Hunbuns! Bake Off was the best experience of my life! I could have only dreamed of being a semi-finalist!

‘If you are thinking of applying but you are scared that you might not have what it takes please apply anyway! I felt exactly the same way and look where it got me!”

He went on: ‘Being the first Polish contestant I felt I had a lot to prove and I hope you enjoyed seeing me bring some Polish flavours to the tent!

‘Sending you all the love there is. Your star caker on a bake week, Janusz.’

Great British Bake Off 2022 final airs Tuesday from 8pm on Channel 4.
