What Is the Prize Money for the NYC Marathon?

There’s a lot of prize money to be doled out to this year’s New York City Marathon winners.

The total guaranteed prize purse at the marathon this year is $870,000. Sharon Lokedi and Evans Chebet, the top finishers in the women’s and men’s races, will each receive $100,000. Marcel Hug and Susannah Scaroni, the wheelchair champions, will receive $25,000.

The top American finishers in the men’s and women’s races will receive $25,000. The prize for the top nonbinary runner is $5,000.

There are additional time bonuses available for runners who break course records — and the wheelchair winners earned them. Both Hug and Scaroni broke the course record and will receive $50,000 each.

There is also a prize of $50,000 for male or female runners who break the course records, but Chebet and Lokedi, running in unusually warm conditions, did not hit those marks.
